blam
Tonight I watched a bunch of kids playing guns, and one of them "shot" one of my sons. He not only shot him once, but he shot him a lot.
From behind.
In the head.
Over and over.
I know they were just playing.
I also know my son was oblivious to it. The other kid was standing on a couch behind him, pointing a "gun" at him while he said "blam" - "blam" - "blam" - "blam" - "blam" - over and over again.
He was concentrating as he did it.
Now, I know it was all pretend.
And I also know that I was that kid growing up with my Star Wars guns.
And I also know that I see all kinds of this stuff on TV, too. I grew up watching much worse stuff on TV than my boys do and I never took a gun to school.
But it bothered me... watching it happen.
So I organized a game of "red light, green light" for the kids to play instead.

Great response.
We watched "Kung Fu Panda" last night, which I love, but we all felt the need to do some slow-mo Kung Fu halfway through the movie. Better than guns? Probably. But I was aware of the violence too.
