a day in the life of me: the move

On an untypically warm New Year's Eve weekend, my family and I began the task of moving.

What was surprising was how many people who came to help us move were those whom we'd had a chance to minister to/with in the six months we'd lived in our town of Portage, Michigan. From a couple we met on a playground and brought into a church to a co-worker from the Boys & Girls Club whom I'd connected with (and many more), it was really an amazing sight. Throw in some family, neighbors, and buddies (who helped the week before) and we were on a roll.

It's amazing how God can use you in the temporary for the eternal.

We have two vehicles in our family - one is a van and one is a car. Since I usually drive the car, I knew it wouldn't make the drive (it barely makes it anywhere outside of the grace of God). So we towed it... actually, a good friend from a former church drove the truck for us while I drove his car. This was my view - our van behind us (which my wife drove) and truck/trailer in the front.

Meanwhile, I drove my friend's car and had the chance to bond with my oldest boy. He had fun bonding, too.

Our dog did okay... granted, we did drug him. Seriously - he was so lucid he didn't want to leave his spot in the van.

Finally, we entered the town of Medina... our new mission field. A place where we would make new friends, have new neighbors, and begin the journey of following through on what God has asked of us for this chapter.

Oh yeah... and there's a Waffle House in Medina, too. I've already eating there three times.

Because you should know that.
