Very, Very Sad!!! :`(

Sad is an understatement. We live in a world of despair and we do nothing to give comfort.

I almost want to Buy it and Send it back to him and have Written over it REDEEMED .... I wonder if some local pastor can speak to him?

tonymyles said...

G - you should! That's a great idea... might give him hope.

Stephanie said...

That's awful! Do we know where he lives? Is there a way to contact him?

Out Of Jersey said...

That is good thinking G-man. I'll contribute if you decide to do it.

tonymyles said...

Count me in, too.

Stephanie said...

Okay well I'm in then too.

Unless you think this should be a "guy thing", then I'll stay out of it. It just makes me so sad for him!!!

This breaks my heart, that someone would be so desperate and feel so hopeless as to do this.
I may not know this mans name, but the Lord does and I will definately keep him up in prayer before the Lord.
That the Lord would show him his life is so much more important than he seems to feel it is right now. That through a miracle the Lord will send someone into his life to show him the way to Jesus who is his hope.

Are we actually doing this?

Not to sound negative, but how do we know this guy is for real?

Cindy Lee Woods said...

If he is not for real then he still needs a lot of prayer and to find Jesus.

I put in a maximum bid of $7.77 - cliche? Yes. But also an Eastern mind's symbol of completeness (and the number traditionally associated with Jesus - not to mention Las Vegas).

Let me know what my share is. Should we get a card?

tonymyles said...

We could get him a card, but I like the idea of just redeeming the certificate and writing a short letter. Thougts on what to say?

By the way - we have time... it's a few days until close on the auction.

Bstermyster said...

I would say -

When you think no one is there to see your pain, God sends an eye opener.

Your eyes have been open and your life is REDEEMED.

Or something like that.

I'll chip in too. If he isn't for real then we are out a couple bucks, if he is then we might have just saved a life. And...the Redeemed bit is clever, so maybe he/she will get a kick out of it.

It doesn't hurt anything to do it.

Gerrard Fess said...

Hopefully no one out bids you. If so - let me know. I'll chip in. As to the letter you can send it back with Redeemed on it. NEED a friend or purpose ... and try a good dialogue or building that relationship. I'd glad have some contact info for him or depending on where he lives .. might have a connection near him.

BTW is it legal to purchase these items?? As long as you're not doing it for "Identity theft" - I'm just wondering about FRAUD and that.

tonymyles said...

Well, if my blog mysteriously stops being updated you'll have your answer to that.

Let's just hope that when he says "so I can move on" he's not talking about ending his own life.

Hmmmm.....

That aint sad. That is scary. Does that make me a sceptic?

Out Of Jersey said...

I think that as long as we aren't trying to use it to get a new identity we are ok. I have my mothers old birth certificate and other family docs like that. I think just putting redeemed on it and Love (from us) will be enough.

Tony, have you corresponded with the guy? He's got to be dying to know what the one person who wants his birth certificate is thinking.

Whatever you write, it's got to be really clever, because he's obviously a very creative thinker. You're the master of that. Let me know if you want me to edit anything.

How are we all going to chip in for this? Should we each send you a couple of buck to your church?

tonymyles said...

A friend emailed me and reminded me of how it is important to communicate spiritual truths but we need to help this guy out physically, too. Maybe instead of giving me money for the winning bid we can send him a few bucks, a gift card, or some fun care package items. If you guys trust me to run with this (i.e. I'm not going to take your money and go buy a steak), let me know via email: tonymyles@hotmail.com

I'm thinking we do the "redemption" thing, but then when I mail it back we throw in a twist of grace. If you're in, be it money or items, contact me and I'll get you an address

bigwhitehat said...

Tony I trust you. But, I don't trust him. This is trouble.

I would love to help. Are you guys still going forward with this? Tony, what church do you pastor?

tonymyles said...

Tawyna -

Going forward for sure. Feel free to email me at tonymyles@hotmail.com

As per church, I currently interim teach at Greenville Community Church - http://community-main.com/

Final shout out - the auction ends tomorrow, so if you want to join the mix on this, send me something soon (contact me at the above address).

Thanks!
