"uma... oprah... oprah... uma..."

In case you don't get the subject line, it's the infamous taunting of David Letterman during his monologue of the 67th Academy Awards. Incidentally, he was never asked to host again.

Over the ten years since it all began, Dave has often mentioned how daytime talk show titan (the) Oprah Winfrey "hates him" as a result of that whole episode. To add to this tension, a couple of years ago Letterman kept a public journal (as a segment on his show) where he moped out loud about not ever being invited on to (the) Oprah's show. This went on for several days and weeks, where each night he would simply write and share, "Oprah didn't call today." The only catch is that (the) Oprah did call him on it and finally invited him to be on her show. Flabbergasted, Letterman backed off and the whole matter was soon dropped.

Apparently, wonders never cease. As it turns out (the) Oprah will soon appear on The Late Show in order to end her long-standing feud with Dave. It all goes down on December 1st... be sure to set up your TiVo. I'm not a fan of (the) Oprah at all (even with my Chicago roots), but I plan on watching.

No word yet if Uma plans on joining in the reunion...

I know, I'm ashamed to admit it. How can I make it up to you? How about I make you an official Cube Head?

Letterman is usually the funniest thing on tv...just on too late for those of us who remain tivoless.

I actually remembering watching the Late Night episode she was on. It was, of course, during the premiere of the MOVIE "The Color Purple" and I remember Oprah talking about going nationwide with her little Chicago talk show. I have a vivid memory of thinking, "Yeah, well, good luck with that. Because there aren't too many TALK SHOWS."

So, I guess I'm an idiot.

Aren't we all though? I used to think Rap was just a passing fad that will disapear.

So... do you like "the rap music" that the kids are all listening to these days?

TIVO sounds like a wonderful thing. This may inspire me to get one. No way I can stay up that late.

I am going to try to stay up late on the 1st to watch Letterman. It's one of my favotie things to watch on TV. But since we now live in the eastern time zone it's hard to stay up that late to watch it. But i've followed the Oprah/Letterman "feud" and look forward to seeing how it all pans out. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one interested in this.

I'm in the Eastern zone, too, but stay up late because I got addicted to late night TV when I lived in the Chicagoland Central time zone.

Too many time zones... can't we all get along?

You know, like Dave and the Oprah lady?

Love the post! But the best part of Dave hosting wasn't the Oprah/Uma (that was a close second!)...the best part was the fake auditions for his role in Cabin Boy.

Do you remember a sea of actors saying the line "Would you like to buy a monkey?" ... Priceless

Oh yeah, and Dave's taking the Oprah/Uma thing back on his show was pretty great too. Does anyone remember him writing Oprah and Uma out on the street using only hot dogs?

Man...the guy could have been a youth pastor.
