from the archives that don't exist

Since I'm in the process of praying through some things right now, I went through some of my old journal entries on my computer. (Well, it's not actually my computer, but I use it.) Anyway - this is all pre-blogging, so it's kind of an archive that doesn't exist on-line. I grabbed an entry from July 7th, 2005 that might be a nice post (while I stay busy in prayer).

A little context to this entry - I had intended on spending a day alone with God so I packed the computer into a backpack, hopped on my bike, and headed to the beach on Lake Michigan (where there's a famous lighthouse named "Big Red," lots of sand, etc.)... only it was harder than I thought.

----

So I hopped on my bike and headed out to the beach today…

to spend a day alone with God.
Funny how I went to a crowded place to stay…

to spend a day alone with God.

There was a DNR guy who stopped me from biking…

to spend a day alone with God.
And so instead of Big Red I parked near some pike thing…

to spend a day alone with God.

There were all kind of noises that kept me from thinking…

to spend a day alone with God.
Distracting bikinis (with Coppertone stinking)…

to spend a day alone with God.

And so I’m leaving the beach and am now on my way…

to spend a day alone with God.
Perhaps this computer itself has gotten in the way…

to spend a day alone with God.

Hey, your blog entry really spoke to me because this last week especiually I have been struggling with letting things distract me when I should have been spending that time with God.I enjoy reading your posts and they are very encouraging and help me to grow in my faith. Thank you

How timely.. I went to the big red lighthouse myself Sunday to eat a sub and spend some time with God. I rode my bike too (motorcycle anyway from Battle Creek). Well the guard let me in for 1 hour to walk the path to the lighthouse. It took 30 minutes to walk to the lighthouse and back to the motorcycle leaving me 30 minutes to eat and spend alone with God. But like you said... many distractions but I liked the peace at the lighthouse and just talking in all the beauty of creation and breathing in the air. Ah... more time could have been spent there but it was time to go to Mars then anyway.

I seem to be most alone with God and less distracted while cruising on my Honda....It is hard to journal though.....

been thinking about your poetry the last few days.. the idea of spending a day alone with God.. yesterday it struck me that maybe solitude's goal is merely to be alone.. peace DM
